About Us

Who we are

The Church of the Augustana in Southeast Asia (CASEA) is a region-wide communion of Lutheran congregations committed to teaching and practicing in complete harmony with the Lutheran Confessions.

Unapologetically Lutheran.

In a world where some modern “Lutherans” seem to be drifting away from their roots, the Church of the Augustana in Southeast Asia (CASEA) proudly rejects any surrender of Lutheran doctrine and practice. We believe it’s time for the Evangelical Lutheran Church to stand firm on the foundation of God’s Word and boldly confess the faithful exposition of Holy Scripture found in the Book of Concord (1580).

Our Affiliation

We are in communion with The Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North American (ELDoNA), which is a separate fellowship from other Lutheran bodies in North America. The diocese has clarified the Scriptural teachings on several controverted items in the Niles Theses, the Malone Theses, and the Theses on Justification.
Filmore Lorenz Alvarez

Our Pastor

Rev. Filmore Lorenz Alvarez serves as pastor of the Church of the Augustana in Southeast Asia (CASEA). He has been serving our congregations since August 5, 2018, when St. Mary’s became an independent congregation in communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North America (ELDoNA).

Pastor Alvarez is based at St. Joseph’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Philippines, our main congregation, while also providing pastoral care to our mission locations throughout Southeast Asia.

We use The Lutheran Hymnal (TLH) in our Divine Services. In accordance with historic Lutheran practice, we require that all communicants undergo catechism and confirmation before receiving the Lord’s Supper.
